Frantically Wake
She wakes
But even as
Her eyes come open
Her heart is racing
Her pulse is radiating
She jumps up
And looks around
But can't slow her mind
To remember that this now
In the here and now
Where her safe space is found.
The panic and fear
The tears they spill
She frantically reaches
Out for her phone
To dial out
And hear a voice
With compassion and love undefined
To talk about anything
Just to bring her back
To the reality she lives in now
It's the only way to shake this fear
To shrug off the nightmares
From past moments
That were so dark and deep
And not so dear.
